Getting Back into Repat Pattern Making
One of my favorite electives when I was a student at SCAD was a repeat pattern making class. Surprising to me, the skills I learned in that course have been helpful multiple times within my broader product design work. I’ve long wanted to get back into pattern making so I could make my own fabric designs as a complement to my sewing. I found it hard to pick back up without the technology I had had access to as a student. In the early days of the pandemic I decided to replace my iPad which led me to the joys of Procreate and digital drawing. I’ve recently found a routine of drawing while I watch TV.
So far, I’ve been mostly getting my designs printed as fabric. My next step is to find some amazing projects to put them to good use. Apparently I only design in 2 themes so far: fruit (top row) and white shapes (bottom row).
